Bringing back to life the forest in Sierra de la Culebra, Zamora

In June and August 2022, two of the most devastating fires in Spain developed in the Sierra de la Culebra in Zamora, covering an area of more than 65,000 hectares. This project acts on more than 20 degraded hectares that were affected by the fire with the aim of restoring the vegetation cover and reversing erosion processes, taking advantage of this action to introduce more species and thus increase the biodiversity of the area.

Outstanding benefits

**CLIMATE**: Reforestation of more than 20 hectares degraded and severely affected after forest fire, restoring the lost vegetation cover, which will capture more than 30,000 tCO2 thanks to the planting of more than 60,000 trees.

**BIODIVERSITY**: Introduction of species diversity, with Rodeno pine as the main species accompanied by pear trees, chestnut trees, cherry trees, hawthorn trees, holm oaks and oaks, generating new ecological niches for emblematic species of the area..

**TERRITORY**: Crushing and incorporation into the soil of burned trees to improve soil retention and avoid pests, while maintaining regrowth. Project with a positive impact on the territory and enrichment of the landscape.
