A forest to protect the soil and promote biodiversity in Palencia

Emblematic afforestation project that, in addition to capturing carbon, has a protective function of the soil to reverse erosion and ecological degradation processes and improve biodiversity. It will involve the formation of a mixed forest with species of great ecological and landscape value of conifers (black pine and Aleppo pine) and hardwoods (almond and juniper).

Outstanding benefits

**CLIMATE AND ECOSYSTEMS**: Carbon sequestration and introduction of species adapted and resilient to climate change. Improvement of the water balance and reversal of erosive processes, with positive effects on adjacent agricultural areas.

**BIODIVERSITY**: it will favor a greater density of fauna, housing colonies of pollinating insects and favoring the breeding of all kinds of species of mammals and birds typical of steppe landscapes (common buzzard, stone curlew, lark, Montagu’s harrier, red-legged partridge, roe deer, rabbit, hare).

**SOCIAL**: Development of sustainable activities, use of non-timber resources and landscape enrichment in a territory of high ethnographic value and affected by depopulation processes.
