Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Livestock Sector

Collaborative innovative project with Mesta (Pascual) to reduce methane emissions through the supply of a feed additive, with strong involvement from the livestock sector. Credits are generated in accordance with ISO 14064 and verified by an independent entity accredited by ENAC.

Through this project, farmers can calculate and manage their carbon footprint and produce low-emission products. It serves as a support lever for the primary sector.

The project addresses an important source of emissions, difficult to eliminate and which, to date, has received little research and funding. Its success will bring significant benefits to the agricultural sector, helping to decouple its climate impact from production.

Outstanding benefits

**CLIMATE**: Cattle are responsible for about 60% of methane emissions in Spain due to enteric fermentation. By supplying this feed additive, we have achieved a 7% reduction in emissions from cattle digestion.

**ANIMAL WELFARE**: The program is based on improving the cows’ feed, always maintaining their productivity and wellbeing. Dairy cows will receive precision feeding through a specific supplement.

**TERRITORY**: Sustainable activities are developed with no cost to participating farmers. We help them identify and quantify their GHG emissions. Adoption of sustainable practices also reduces negative externalities such as odor and landscape impact, improving coexistence with nearby communities.
