Nearly 2 million seedlings will be planted over the next two years, representing more than 70 native species. This rich diversity ensures the restoration of ecological corridors, benefiting the natural ecosystem and generating high ecological value.ight municipalities in southern Bahia on the Muçununga Project.
We are proud to announce our participation as a co-developer in the Muçununga Project, alongside Biomas. Named after a native ecosystem of the region, the initiative will help restore habitats by reforesting 1,200 hectares of Atlantic Forest in southern Bahia.
This native forest will be established on degraded lands and abandoned pastures across eight municipalities — areas with strong potential for the creation of ecological corridors. The Muçununga Project is expected to generate approximately 525,000 carbon credits over 40 years.
In this long-term partnership, Biomas will be responsible for the forest, while Carbon2Nature Brazil — a joint venture between Carbon2Nature S.A.U of the IBERDROLA Group and Neoenergia — will oversee the project’s technical management, maintenance, and monitoring. We will ensure the project contribution to biodiversity, social and territorial benefits, and the generation of high-quality carbon credits.
Beyond restoring the ecosystem, the initiative will also support local socioeconomic development by creating new income opportunities. Around 80 direct jobs are expected to be generated in the region.

“The new partnership between Carbon2Nature Brazil and Biomas celebrates the union of two complementary companies focused on two key societal agendas: sustainability and social development. The project reaffirms our commitment to expanding environmental benefits and improving quality of life, especially in the regions where we operate, such as the state of Bahia — where we are active in distribution, generation, and transmission. This region of the Atlantic Forest is one of the most biodiverse biomes in the world.”
Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.
